tenji japanese buffet

i know i know, this must be the umpteenth time i'm blogging about Japanese food.

what to do...i'm such a freak for Jap cuisine!!

this one's a gem as i came out smiling from ear to ear while rubbing my rounder-than-usual belly with much glee and satisfaction.

this was where i went on the day i took leave for no particular reason (really!)...
having heard of this place numerous times, it was nice to finally make it here. no wonder it's so widely-mentioned - this place is like pj's version of Bintang Walk, crawling with pubs and cafes at every nook and corner!
but for now, i was more interested with this section of Solaris...
my stummy was literally screaming out 'Sashimi! Unagi! Sashimi! Unagi!' by the time i saw this sign ...
the decor was very impressive; better than Jogoya's i would say, and diners have the option of having their meals outside (during night time, i guess),
or inside...where it's cooler and most importantly, nearer to the food.

i heard that this place was jam-packed when it initially opened, so lucky for me, the place was pretty empty that day..cause everyone else was at work? heee...
my buffet partner that day
as i 'sniffed' around looking for that familiar metal dish packed to the brim with layers of generously-portioned thick slices of unagi soaked in teriyaki sauce, well...much to my chagrin, there weren't any..(!)
the only unagi i found were a handful of skimpy looking 'dry' ones stuck onto sushi rice balls..*wailing* WaaaaaHH...
so i guess my only consolation was seeing those raw oysters, scallops and
fried soft-shelled crabs!
this is one scary looking octopus (don't worry, it is not edible, purely for deco)

the sashimi salmon beside it IS though...
they also served singapore chilli crabs...and i chose the meatiest part of all!!
they got nice fresh succulent big prawns,
but my favourite of all is their variety of steamed fish...cod especially!

i think all in all, we ordered about 8 plates of fish...

including fierce-looking ones like this.
and those with their mata terbeliak.
too much seafood? there's herbal chicken soup
and damnnnnn good lamb!! i can still taste it in my mouth!!
stay away from the sushi rice rolls, these stomach-fillers are strictly forbidden!
sukiyaki in miso soup....very tasty as well. the 2nd time i'm having sukiyaki.
i'm a mushroom lover...i'm a mushroom lover...i'm a mushroom lover! ^_^
i've never seen this wide a selection of cakes in any buffet dessert corner.
how to stuff in all the cake when they even have a chocolate fountain!
and their drinks? the norm really; the only interesting thing i find is their 12 types (w0w!) of tea brewing in the hot-pot, mostly flower tea (blueberry, rose, jasmine, 'names-i-can't pronounce', etc...)
BUT it was their coconut drink that we couldnt get enough of!

yin must have drank about 5 of them, even grabbing a last one on our way out from restaurant! shame shame, yin.. ;*> this girl spent her longest ever time in a buffet....4 hours!
it's ME la...(wat, dun looky like me?)
lol...don't underestimate my eating prowess! somehow my superior strength was unveiled on 18th May approximately from 12pm - 4pm!!
muahahahaha...
They have this promotion running till end of July. So now, you too can 'suffer' the same fate as me...bloated belly and indigestion......
just think 'cholesterol' while u're there...........burp.

newly weds **ziintat & maykwan**

first of all, i'm inclined to say..."maykwan, if you're reading this, sorry it took me almost a month to put these up!" (at least i finally did! ;>) doesn't this look like 2 sisters in a print ad for toothpaste? *chingg!*
2/5/09 was the wedding dinner of my colleague, May Kwan. she's the one in white. duh.
people say we were sorta having similar hairstyles that night, but i assure you, mine was much more unruly as i had mine done some 8 hours earlier.. so you can imagine that by night time, my baby hair was getting out of formation! thank god there weren't any close-up shots of me. hee...
The place is Summer Palace Restaurant, Wisma Dijaya, PJ.
Even though seated at the back of the hall, i just HAD to make my way to the front just to be able to show you the main table with its centrepiece and stage and the wedding cake and the blurred powerpoint presentation. Bet you do not know that the beauty of d centrepiece at the main table is a real biggie in a wedding dinner.
Here's a shot of the menu that night.
me with the claims and broking execs
For the record, I did my hair where I've always had it done - at my regular unisex salon along Brickfields. I'm like one of their 10% non-Indian patrons. I think I got a good deal for only RM 20.
my oh my, me and my biggest smile
Here were the dishes and their 'glamour' names...
Happiness Four Season Platter
Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Crab Meat
(sorry I had to down you, sharky but you were too delicious to be just sitting in front of me..)
Roasted Chicken
Steamed Pomfret
(really expensive fish, I heard)
Stewed White Cabbage with Beancurd Stick and Black Mushroom
(at home, we just call it 'Mixed Vegetables')
Baked Tiger Prawn with Sesame (yikes!) Honey Sauce
like prawns coated with gazillions of black stinky bugs(!)
Fried Rice with Assorted Seafood
(the 'heaviest' dish is always the last so guests have no reason to leave still feeling hungry)
Chinese Pancake and Mochi (?)
(made up this name myself as the menu calls them 'Sweet Fancy Duets' and I find the name funny) Chilled Sweet Corn Cream with Sago
(this was niiicee)
The beautiful bride and her change of clothes no. 1:
that's a beaming Esther (Maykwan's mum) in the background
Change of clothes no.2 :
they look sooooooooooo frigging matching together! love this dress, btw.
how come the groom doesn't need to change?
To the new Mr and Mrs Liew,
* What both of you have is something so sweet and true;
May you soon have many little ones to play masak2 with you *
(lol)

*strictly for F1 fanatics*

Hurrayy!!
thumbs up for KiMi!
KiMi is finally back on the podium for Ferrari at the Monaco race yesterday. First podium for the team after a veryveryvery long time this season....Why the big hoo-haa?
Let's just say it's been the longest period of gloominess in their workshop after each race....until yesterday! I think never in history, Ferrari fans all over the world (i'm sure!) had to go through the following transition of thoughts in a season after each disappointing finish :-
1st race - *super excited* then mana tau
"oops....OK ok, nvm..only first race"
2nd race - "ooops..aiyah...err..why ah"
3rd race - "oh mann car technical error la"
4th race - "WAT.....AGAIN?!"
5th race - "not enuf fuel? @#!XO%#"
and then, the unexpected happened...
6th race - "HURRAYY!" *THERE's a GOD!!" *Somersault* (party all night long)
*KiMi downs whole bottle of champagne by himself since he's been missing it for so long*
Even though it's only 3rd placing, it was certainly something for the Ferrari fans to rejoice in. Let's hope the prancing horse has finally found his hoofs!
And as D biGGEST KiMi fan around (not so much Ferrari...hee), I wana see him strutting his stuff in many many more months to come!
And stay away from ice cream.

Ozeki membawa Rezeki

Somewhere nestled beneath the illuminating Twin Towers, you can find this relaxing, tranquil, somewhat posh dining place that serves one of the best authentic Japanese cuisine, Ozeki Tokyo Cuisine
I must apologise for the quality of photos as the place was rather dim...or romantic, depending on how you see it.
Me? Boy, I can see the kitchen from where I'm seated. I think the waitresses are also Japanese as they were reading out the orders (in Jap of course!) to the kitchen staff as fluent as me reciting my jadual sifir.
Someone's so happy knowing that he's backed by all the sake he wants!
May be a little pricey for most of us meagre salary-earning kuli-s , (haha) but for what it's worth, the quality and freshness is guaranteed and of high standards. For me, it's an 'ok' price to pay for a great relaxing ambience. I love dimly-lit places for dining; only downside of it - you risk me falling asleep by the end of my meal..heeee.
Anyways, i love their Dinner Sets as you get all the tasty sides as well, for a reasonable price range of RM 35 - RM 50.
Here's what the gang ordered and I sampled ...
1. Tempura to Sashimi Set
2. Ten Zaru Soba
3. Tendon Chirashi Bento Set (Mine!) - coz there's sashimi + tempura...the best of both worlds
Moon, you may not like this photo of you doing 'The Dangling Soba' stunt, but this also happens to be the only photo of you that night...so...
who's that pointing

4. Unagi Kabayaki Salmon Sashimi - the Unagi was one of d BEST I've ever tasted!
5. Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) - Only order this if you like tomato sauce as this is one sour pancake
aaaaaaahmmp!
Happy Birthday Marky dear!!
(don't look so happy yet, our share for your treat is only RM 10/pax)
6. Maccha Zensai - i don't go for green tea ice cream, but from the noddings I get from the guys, I know this must be one heavenly jap dessert!
SAKE!!!!
Now Yam Seng with me, fellas!

Now, THAT'S what i call fine Jap from Ozeki in Menara TA..

Oyasiminasai.... xoxo (Aya-V)
