Bangkok Pt 5 - Chocolate Ville

My final Bangkok posting is of a memorable place, so unique and pretty, you'd never think of it being found in a place like Bangkok.

Thanks to Danny's recommendation, i've no regret about taking a long 45-minute cab ride to this place. Though this place only operates from 4pm till late night, one thing to note is not to leave this place too late, as we soon learnt when we were having trouble flagging down a return cab. Hope they'll improve the public transportation problem soon, so tourists don't end up paying a premium fare just to get back to the hotel.

The name Chocolate Ville has no connection watsoever with chocolate. Nope, no edible chocolate houses here.

The most important thing to bring here is - your camera. Or handphone camera at least. Everything about this place is so European, you practically feel you have entered an entirely new world.

The architectural landscape of this place is so photogenic, i'll just let the photos here speak for themselves...

There's a little sandy beachfront at the entrance...

If giant cupcakes ain't your thing....,

...how about a gigantic hearty donut?
If only i could sink my teeth into it.

'Hi peeps!' (Ember and i)

Gingerbread Man gets his chin tickled.

Luen and Ember.

This SO reminds us of Candy Crush!

This is just the beginning.
Behind this door is an entirely different world that will leave you in awe and wanting more.

and THIS is what i mean....

Picturesque lighthouse in the middle.

Beautiful gazebo as the centre of attraction.

This is as close as Mark gets to owning his own speedboat.

The beautiful architecture here is endless, i felt like taking a photo of everything.

But the best views still came from the top of this lighthouse..
Bird's eye view....a low-flying bird that is.

The most amazing thing is, the entire place is also a freaking restaurant! Easily hundreds of tables located all over its vicinity. Best time to come here is before it turns dark, so you get to gawk at its daytime glory,

..and watch its transformation come nightfall!

Without any prior booking, we queued (quite a bit) before we were assigned a table.
But first, let's check out the menu....

We were ushered to our table that happened to be 'on water'.

A nice little place they call Canal Cafe.

What does this tell you about the number of tables they have!

Our drinks which of course must include the thirst-quenching Coconut Shake!

A Green Tea Milk with Pearl concoction which is damn good.

As for our dinner....PiZZa's full of PiZZazz

Pasta's above average.

This was my selection, something spicy with seafood in it.

Something that turned out to be DAMN SPICY! I was literally in tears as i struggled through my plate of pasta, picking out whatever chilli bits i could find. Found a whole stick of peppercorns in it too!

Now THIS is their must-try signature dish - the RIBS!

..and how much were they, you ask?

Verdict of the ribs - aside from their super crazy long bony rib, the meat though tasty, wasn't as tender as those from Morganfields.

When it comes down to the overall bill, well, just remember that you are also paying for the environment and ambience. I'd probably rate the food here a 7/10.

OK, make that a 7.5/10 since they managed to score big-time with this delicious Chocolate Lava cake.

One for the album!

More sight seeing after dinner is important to burn off all the calories.

Loved the toilets! Such cute signage.
And no, i didn't actually get a boy and a girl to pose there for me.

Check me out in my country home kitchen.
Didn't stay too long to smell the roses though, there were mosquitoes flying all over.

All in all, this place is a must-visit. While there's no entrance fee and you can snap photos till you drop, it's also worth the experience to have a nice cosy al fresco dining alongside the beautiful view and people around.

The day and night transformation is remarkable and worth comparing. For example, there's this adorable giant white bear on the beach during the day,

..that turns into this villain-like evil-looking bear at night.

Well of course, if there ever was a villain in Chocolate Ville, we all know where we can get help.
Happy Travels!

Bangkok Pt 4 - Terminal 21

During my Bangkok stay, Terminal 21's food court came highly recommended by Ember. Little did i know that this place on Sukhumvit Road wasn't just your generic shopping mall.

While it's design is very much like an airport terminal, each floor represents a different country altogether.

Imagine every scale of unique architecture here, from San Francisco's famous Golden Gate Bridge to sculptures of the mythical Greek God.

Struck with awe, i was determined to explore every single floor of this 9-storey mall, despite my rumbling tummy (remember i came here for food!). Anyway, the floors and its unique concept are :-
Carribean - Rome - Paris - Tokyo - London - Istanbul - San Francisco (2 floors) - Hollywood.

For example, the Istanbul floor is beautifully lit with enchanting lamps.

What captivated me most was the uniquely designed toilets.

Awesome ain't it?

You'd never guess this path leads to the toilets on London floor! The subway's fake!

The toilet cubicle doors!

Outside, they even got the iconic double decker bus. No joke bringing this bad boy into the mall.

Japan floor was exquisite with life-size dolls all around.

Rushing off to the toilets again.....this was one time we didn't mind peeing on every single floor.

Looking like we were heading to some Japanese home....

...which turned out to be yet another restroom!

Another toilet of this same floor had a harajuku theme..

SO kawaii!! (that means 'cute' in Jap)

FINALLY made our way to the 5th floor, where their famous foodcourt, Pier21 is. Absolutely no regrets about this place. Food's blardy good, prices genuinely cheap (for a mall standard) and no problem finding an empty seat as this place is huge.

In fact, we loved this place sooooo much, we came back here for the following day's dinner.
Here's a glimpse of what we ate...

The braised pork set was heavenly, it wasn't enough even for me!

Dear's all-time fave, Pad Thai.....and the version here is super spicy and flavoursome!

Pork and its spare parts noodle thingy....can't recall the name but had certainly memorised the location of this stall coz i'll be back for more one day! What's the deal with the pork here that's so tender and odourless?!

Beef noodles which i seldom order, but loved the broth to the max!

Fried rice which tasted spicier than it looks here.

OK, the individual food portion of this food court may be slightly below par, but that's why it's so affordable eating here! Imagine having Pad Thai for only 30 Baht (RM3)! Of course, this also means we could order a variety of goodies and eat till our hearts content!

I'd think twice about ordering their cold drinks here though, like the popular milk tea perhaps?

The amount of ice they fill in your cup CAN give you brain FREEZE just by looking at it.
