masak masak

The one time when the kids simultaneously agreed to put aside their games to bake something, was truly a pivotal moment in their life (and mine!). Nothing stood out more for me to record this historic process.

Of course i had to ensure a simple-enough mixer-free recipe for them to follow (who else was gonna clean up after them eh?)

1. Firstly, grate some orange zest.

2. Squeeze out as much juice as you can from that squishy orange.

3. Mix the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder and salt) together. Yes it proves to be more fun working on the kitchen floor than the counter top, just like how one plays masak-masak.
4. Drop in those grated orange zest for that nice citrus-y taste.
5. While the lil sister has a go at mixing the dry stuff, start off the wet ingredients with some fresh milk.
6. Lil sister takes a bold move to break an egg
7. Egg goes into the milk for a good stir, while lil sister continues to play with mix the dry ingredients.

8. Finally, the orange juice goes into the wet mixture along with some melted butter/ oil.
9. We're almost there!

10. Lil sis arranges the cupcake paper cups on the baking tray.

11. That's my arm gently pouring the wet into the dry mixture.

12. Just a quick stir to bind the ingredients together. Kids will tend to overmix for the fun of it, so, i had to pry away their mixing spoons.
13. Stretching their backs after all the hard labour.

14. After filling up about 3/4 full of each paper cup, they added their own touch of topping onto each cake.

15. Who's heard of chicken floss orange cupcakes?

16. Well, it turned out to be ALRIGHT after all!

17. All smiles knowing that they can finally go back to their mobile games.
Thanks for the lovely treat though!
