tini and her kerabu

The Raya hype has really mellowed down for me this year...geesh, what happened la. No more eat-till-i-drop buka puasa feasts, no more minister open houses, even my colleague Roziah does not send me Raya cookies anymore (coz she's left the company that's why). Oh dear *sad*

Luckily all is not lost.

Thanks to Tini. Bubbly wacky Tini, who prepared home made nasi kerabu (a Kelantan rice salad dish) for all of us in the department.

The nicely set-up mini buffet spread.
Excuse the color of the rice which by right should be blue in color (from the blue pea flower). According to Tini, she was flower-less at the time of cooking :-P
Nicely marinated beef slices to go with the rice. yum.
And sweet juicy kerisik (toasted grated coconut) which i learnt had fish in it as well.
"Come come, fill up yer plates"
My healthy serving of lunch! LOVE the fish crackers though.
Terima Kasih, Tini,
Sekali lagi tahun depan!

random pics : darren at 7 mths+

1st August marked a milestone for darren~boi when his bottom two front teeth finally erupted from his pinky gums. That makes him an official BITER at the tender age of 7 months olds!
Believe me when i say he bites and he bites down HARD whenever i clean the inside of his mouth with my finger. Must be his way of punishing me for those times when his pleas went ignored. lol.
As a matter of fact, this kiddo can now sit upright,...with minimal assistance, that is.  :-p
He loves sitting at the corner of our sofa.
He loves even more sitting at the corner of our sofa with his favourite animals.
Yet another attempt to get the best father-n-son lookalike shot.
Interesting how some say both have the exact cookie-cutter looks, but i don't see it leh. Nah, 50% copy maybe.
Waitaminute, what happened to darren's dimples in this pic??
On a serious note, we have taught darren the game of rock, paper, scissors.
lol, i wish.
 Check out darren in shades....
Darren with gong~gong back in Melaka recently. .. haha, that's one happy kid.
Then I had my share of fun too.....
 Sexy glare from darren!

At the end of the day, too much playtime equals ..... a drained darren.
poor boy with sweet sweet dreams...  awww..

happy birthday Jin!

My first time in mid-range Italian fine dining Michelangelo's (in Pavilion) was some 5 years ago...(i think). Ever so gladly, I was recently back here for their highly-recommended Lunch Set.
It was also the perfect 'new' place to bring Jin for her birthday lunch. She's always game on eating something never eaten before, seeking new foodie adventures.
For the rather posh setting we got, their lunch sets of between RM 20+ to RM 40+ was a good deal, coupled with a surprisingly tasty lunch!
me n fong who was non stop praising this place
The set comprises of an :-
Appetizer + Main Course + Dessert + Beverage (freshly brewed Italian coffee/ tea)

Choice of appetizers were either Bruschetta (which none of us ordered so no pic, sorry), Mushroom Soup (see below)...
the 'wild mushroom' kind topped with a generous swirl of cream
..or Caesar Salad (as below). Already impressed with the appetizers, we were hopeful for our main courses. :-D
I only have 3 different main courses to show here as quite a number jumped on the bandwagon of the 'Chili Lime Prawn Spaghetti'. The verdict from my friends - very dry. haha, what did they expect...should have gotten the carbonara or marinara instead ma...This spaghetti set costs RM 26.90
One guy ordered the Coney Sandwich set (RM 25) who then claimed it reminded him of A&W's Coney Dog. lol...No-la, it wasn't that similar...this one had damn tasty wedges at the side!
I was extremely pleased with my order of Pesce a la Florentine , which i will loosely translate as Whitefish in Pesto Sauce...Though the portion wasn't a big one, but the fish accompanied by the lovely sauce was to die for. I literally licked my plate clean! This set's priced at RM 25 too!
All in all, there are 4 sets to choose from for each week, with a different menu every week.
This lunch promotion lasts till 30 Sept, and i ain't too sure if they'll extend the promo then. Best thing is, it's available every day except Sunday. So yeah, you can head on down here for a Saturday lunch!

Finish off a nice lunch with coffee/ tea and your choice of dessert (Panacotta or Crema Catalana). This here is the Panacotta which was mm...mmm....mmmm....mmmmm... In other words, speechless.

Of course, the main celebration (apart from the one my tummy was having), was Jin's birthday.
What's a birthday without making wishes and blowing out candles on a cake.
And even if it's not your birthday, feel free to 'tumpang' your wishes with the birthday girl.
notice Danny's also making a wish..lol
The cake that Jin is announcing she'll cut into, is a Tiramisu from A Slice of Heaven.
We got Danny saying "Aaaamm!...." to Jin.
One for the album!
Dun mind Danny's expression, have no clue what he was trying to portray.
Nice place to dine......nice decor with artistic pictures on the wall, like this one. ..
Trust Jin to be the first to realise that the male model was missing a certain something. .

happy birthday gaik bee

My colleagues and i recently tried out this restaurant with it's well-lit name, Bonne Grey.
2 things that brought us here - we had Groupon vouchers for a 3-course meal AND it was in celebration of Gaik Bee's birthday.
For a full-course meal worth >RM 40/pax, we would be getting a salad + drink + main + dessert.
Thanks to Groupon, we only had to pay RM 12.50/ pax now.
(It's the thought that counts, Gaik Bee) =P
As attractive an offer this was, there wasn't a huge turnout and we managed to reserve our seats in this cosy, if not almost empty restaurant. Birthday gal Gaik Bee was all smiles... =D
After a quick order from our already-limited menu, it was photo taking session as usual.

Thanks to organiser Choy Phyll (in white) who is a total Grouponholic!

When the food came, in my opinion, it was kinda lacking in presentation and taste. The salad was plain amateurish, even a 5-year old could prepare it.
The Spaghetti Marinara was 'not bad', or so i heard. That's when i noticed the servings were rather small.
Like this Chicken Lasagna.....Gaik Bee ordered this, but can't recall any negative (nor positive) remarks from her. Maybe she was just being humble and 'un'picky towards her food, unlike me.
I didn't think the Lasagna looked as appealing as I hoped it would be.
Yours truly ordered the Baked Marinated Butterfish with Couscous/ Steamed Rice. Sounds heavenly, doesn't it? Well, this dish actually ended up looking like my regular nasi campur with grilled fish and salad (the same kind i had earlier) and MSG-laden soup as sides. And what couscous?
I do like that the fish meat was tender and tasty, but it was rather dry to eat with plain rice.
My consolation (apart from the great company i was with) was the desserts!
We had Belgian Waffle with Vanilla Ice Cream....niceee!

While i chose the Warm Chocolate Tart with Ice Cream which turned out to be even nicer! Loved the warm and gooey melted chocolate which pairs up well with the icy cold vanilla ice cream.
It may be that only the desserts are worth mentioning here, but even so, it's quite over-priced for a place like Bonne Grey's. My only wish for this place is for them to improve on the food quality fast, or else, their tenancy here in Menara Hap Seng will be short-lived.

'Meatworks' works!

I've always wanted to try out the food at Meatworks, Solaris Mont Kiara since it opened in May 2010. There was so much hype about this place back then, that when i finally had the chance to dine there recently...
...the place was rather empty, i was thinking 'where did all the hype go?'...'where's the queue outside the restaurant?'
My first thought was the food quality had dropped tremendously or the prices were hiked, and that explains the steep drop in business.
Nevertheless, i was already there in this cosy restaurant with my in-laws, and i could only pray i do not disappoint the meat connoisseurs, for recommending this place.
The name speaks for itself of course. As much as vegans would just walk past this place, meat lovers on the other hand would be very tempted to satisfy their cravings with the biggest piece of meat that they could afford.
I took the below picture from their menu and even though the meat displayed here looks really dry, the real deal isn't at all!
On the contrary, the Rib Eye Steak (medium rare, the bloody way hubby likes dem!) was cooked to perfection! For a price of RM 58, the fluffy creamy whipped potato and side vege were the perfect complement too!

I wanted something more 'manageable' and yet how could i miss not trying their famous MEAT, therefore i went for their Steak Sandwich (RM 24). Loved the generous strips of beef sirloin topped with plenty of mustard (yey my fave topping too!). I had salsa sauce too, though it kinda felt out-of-place. But let me tell you about my fries, OH MY DAMN TASTY FRIES!! Can i say they tasted so 'original' (if you know what i mean)?

Now, this ain't your typical Fish & Chips platter. Trust my mum-in-law to order something classier known as Tempura Red Snapper (RM 28). It did not disappoint either. Another good dish to order. ^^

The final main course was my dad-in-law's Linguini Marinara (RM 28). Another thumbs up from him too for the fresh sea food and yummeh sauce.

Our starters came out after our mains, so that really wasn't expected, especially after our tummies were filled. Luckily, the Garlic Baguette turned out to be super crispy and 'garlicious'... A well spent RM 10 for a perfect ending to our meal. Note to self - 'DO not procrastinate any longer to making the perfect home made garlic bread'. Trust me, it's actually pretty simple!!
And to top everything off, this Double Choc Chip Milkshake (Yup, you heard me...DOUBLE!) was screaming 'FAT FAT FAT!' the entire time i was gulping it down. Well, at the same price of RM 12.80 for a  normal Choc Chip Milkshake, even YOU would go for the DOUBLE right?!

So there you have it, i had a heavenly time in Beeftopia!

Quite a hefty tab of RM 200 for 4 pax, but definitely worth trying at least once.

Then again.

And again.

And again.
