two sides of a 10-cent coin

today i gave mark seven 10-cent coins and that mere 70-cents could very well have become RM 120.60!
little did i know that the 10-cent coin issued by BNM in 1971 is such a rare item that it is traded among collectors for RM 120 a piece! all because there was limited mintage of this denomination, totaling to about 48,000 pieces only produced that year.

not sure how many people know about this 'money-making-money' scheme but if only i had known this much MUCH earlier (like as soon as i was born)(:-), i'd probably be filthy rich now! ok, maybe not filthy, just rich(er)...

in fact there was this winning bid on e-bay of RM 230 in exchange for 10-cents....
yeah man..RM 230 for this..this....this flat, round cheap-looking scrap of tin ore! (if the word 'tin ore' sounds weird, i'm just quoting mark really...coz i have no idea what they call the material used to make our 10-cent coins...!heeeheee)
alamak, my oldest 10-cent coin is only in 2000...

and after searching high and low, all i found were FOUR 10-cent coins in my entire possession!
your chances might be like winning the lottery but wth, start flipping through your 10-cent coins from now on. and if you DO discover your first RM 120, don't forget the girl who shared this piece of information with you.
(yah yah..i won't forget you, mark)

btw, dun beggars carry the most 10-cent coins with them ah?

  1. haha yeaaa...

i read about this before... i mean these limited mintage coins, or even coins (or even notes) with defects that slipped out into circulation and ended up being sought after by eccentric collectors who'd pay a lot more than its face value just for bragging rights :)...

goes to show we have a very colourful society here in malaysia, as with the rest of the world....
