Mummy dearest birthday do
With or without Covid-19, nothing could deter us from having a food fiesta in celebration of beloved mom's 74th birthday.
Sis always knows what flowers warm the cockles of mum's heart ;)
Ordering takeout was the safer bet during times like this and i think in a way, that gave us the liberty to order whatever we felt like eating in the comfort of our own home. Limiting the number of dishes was a particularly difficult task especially when came to ordering Nyonya cuisine. You want a taste of this and a little bit of that, and in no time, you'd have racked up a list of dishes as long as your supermarket shopping list. Gulp!
Our point of satiation for Nyonya food could only come from Lin Neo Delight Restaurant in Kota Laksamana, Melaka.
A must-try is their freshly made Pai Tee (A serving of 5 top hats for RM 10).
Cili Garam Tenggiri (RM 40/ RM 23) - fried fresh fish with their signature chilli salt paste which they also sell at RM 10 per tub.
Asam Pedas Pari (RM 40) - loved that their fish was super fresh!
Nyonya Special Fried Chicken (RM 30) - came in all wings and drumettes only
Lemak Nanas Udang (RM 60) - yet another winning dish with huge succulent prawns and the sauce eaten with white rice is simply a match made in heaven.
Stew Pork (RM 30) - very fragrant with tons of spices (you can hardly see the pork slices here!).. frankly, i still prefered mom's version of this LOL
An assortment of Chap Chai or mixed vegetables (RM 14), Lady's Fingers/ Ladies Finger/ Lady Fingers, whichever.. (RM 12) and my all-time fave Kangkung Belacan (RM 12) ... greens to please mom, The Queen of Veg!
As if gorging ourselves with heaps of rice and dishes wasnt enough, we had to tantalize our taste buds with Lin Neo's awesomely spicy and tasty Mee Goreng (RM 7.50). Sooo good with a splash of vinegar or lime juice.
Next was the ceremonial birthday song, candle-blowing (erm Hayley was quick to do this) and cake-cutting by mom dearest.
This was the first Rainbow Cake that i literally fell in love with the moment i set eyes on it. Its pastel colors were perfect and so soothing like mom's heart-warming love.
For RM 63, this spongy and airy cake is full of natural flavours of orange, strawberry, vanilla, matcha and chocolate, not to mention topped with 2 delicious macarons. Will definitely try other pretty cakes from Handmade Bakery Cafe in Kota Laksamana, Melaka in the future.
What better way to mark the end of our Nyonya themed dinner, than with a bowl of ice cold Chendol (RM 4.80)
and Pulut Tekan (RM 10 for 5 pieces).. beautifully moulded glutinous blue rice with home made kaya.
We finally managed to brave through 3 hours of non stop eating! omg, i actually felt like i just went through dinner again after writing this. Burp!
At least the kids got to burn their calories the day after...
