Bangkok Pt 2 - Asiatique The Riverfront

Since i had 5 days to spare in Bangkok, we went to this place recommended by our hotel - Asiatique The Riverfront. Touristy, but it's a delightful shopping, dining and sightseeing experience  found in more than 1000 stores and restaurants here. Easy peasy getting there - board the free shuttle boats from BTS Saphan Taksin disembark point. We took the alternative (due to the shorter queue) and paid only 20 Baht/pax for a 10 minute ride to the Asiatique Pier.

The Ferris Wheel and clock tower makes two famous landmark of the Asiatique.

I didn't get on the Wheel though; don't think i have the patience to wait for it to go full circle especially when all i need is like 30 seconds to catch the full view when i'm up there. Well, plus it was kinda drizzling when i was there. hehe.

Everything starts to come alive here from 5pm till late night. The indoor shopping mall is HUGE and sells everything from souvenir items to antique furniture!

You have to stay till the sun goes down, just to experience the buzzing night life here.

It's like a mega fun fair has arrived in town!

Lots of cutting-edge fashion stores and even more places for wine and dine. This place Yayoi, has one of the cheapest Japanese set meals. Did not try this though - just didn't feel right having Japanese in Thailand!

Deciding to go Thai, we went next door, into this smiley face restaurant. Apparently the name means 'delicious salad' and had i known this earlier, would have indeed ordered a salad or two to try. Oh well.
As you can see, this place was packed and we had to wait like half an hour for our table.

Our table.

My all-time fave Thai must-haves consist of Seafood Tom yam, Green Curry Chicken and Kangkung Belacan. The last Grilled Chicken came recommended by our waitress, so definitely no regrets about that too! Overall, i would rate the food 8/10 (that's because i'm a Thai food fanatic!).

Total damage : 634 THB for 4 pax. Reasonably priced given its ambience.

Spotted yet another Japanese diner, Kacha Kacha - a classier one.
Famous for its teppanyaki and yakitori, i would have been very tempted to step in for a bite, if not for my already-stuffed belly from my Thai delicacies.

It's another one of those places where you are constantly drowned with greetings of 'irrashaimase'.
Suitably, the word Kacha Kacha means 'noise', as seen by the two characters here resembling laughing faces. How cute is that.

As it was still Songkran, there was a water party going on at a designated area inside Asiatique itself. I wanted to stay dry that night, so i stayed far far away from that area. However, as i was queuing up for the return shuttle boat, a parade of Songkran beauties strolled by us, gently flicking water at us while flashing their heart-melting flirtatious smiles. Too bad no pictures here, as they practically came out of nowhere and all i could do was laugh at my guy friend, Luen scrambling to find his camera.

One last look at this remarkable place, well-developed for tourists and a relaxing get-away from the mainland for the locals. Impressive.
