fresco, jaya grocer

Occasionally, we all feel like having a steak dinner or some good non-dory fish. And then, the thought that a decent cut of meat can easily cost more than RM 40, makes us think twice before stepping into that dining place. Well, this is my solution to a perfectly-cooked meal, without burning a hole in my husband's pocket.

Introducing Fresco - the 'grocerant' (grocer + restaurant) belonging to Jaya Grocer. What's so F-U-N about this place?
1. You get to pick your own choice/ color/ cut/ size/ blah blah of meat ......Fussy-ma
2. You get to pay for your chosen meat ....................................................Unavoidable
3. You get to instruct the chef on how you want your meat to be cooked... Nice!!

Sure the dining area may look like a food court setting,

...it's 'pay before food is served' (self-serviced),

...and the garnishing's nothing fancy....

BUT it didn't matter because the finished product was of high quality and finesse.
This steak was so juicy and just the perfect medium rare. Love those grilled marks on the meat.

I chose the healthier choice of salmon and a big piece it was too.

The only condition of having the chef cook your meat at Fresco is a minimum side order must be made.
For the sides, we had the King Oyster Mushrooms which was excellent-o!

The Herbed Potato was very fluffy, tasty and a great value for money too.

Asparagus was a favourite choice too, since we don't regularly find this at restaurants. Just a tad too skinny. hahaha..

Mom-in-law about to dig into her flaky juicy salmon.

How i fell in love with my salmon that night -

a) Crispy skin salmon is something not every cook can master.

b) Who pays only RM 22 for such beautiful orangy salmon

c) It was my first time eating salmon medium rare (?), cooked on the outside and sashimi-like in the centre...it was like eating salmon jelly....awesome!

Darren must have wished he could have nibbles of our meat too. hahaha...

Fresco can be found at The Intermark (where i was before), Empire Shopping Gallery, Bangi Gateway and Cheras Sentral.
There you go, highly recommended by yours truly.

  1. Cooking is no longer free, they now charge RM5 per dish.
I found the prices of the meat higher compared to other places.
For a salmon dish with a bit of pasta and a few green leaves, I paid nearly RM50. Not worth it
