For no apparent reason am i showing you here my typical Sunday breakfast spread whenever i'm back in Malacca.. ^^.
aaahh....my fave min fan gou and kueh below....My personal indulgence aside, here's a look at my latest internet deal from Groupon. The meal offer was for an authentic Portuguese dining experience for four. The place is this newly sprouted open-air restaurant called...
I found the wall decor impressive as it showcased the authenticity of the Portuguese community, not to mention various antiques were displayed too.
Life story of the owners of this place perhaps? It was too long and the words too tiny for me to read on...=.=
My first English N Portuguese menu....No idea what 'kumiria di pamiang' means, but it certainly isn't 'breakfast' in Portuguese.
Our set consisted of a Curry Capitan (a thick spicy Chicken curry with potatoes, valued at RM 19.90). Appreciated the super huge chunky potatoes, but certainly did not fancy them using chicken breast meat instead of the usual chicken cut-up pieces, like how a chicken curry should be. And i think it's just me, but the curry tasted 'different'...not like the usual kind. Must be Portuguese style...
This dish below is called 'ambilla kacang garlinia' or sourish chicken curry with long beans. And so like you, i asked myself, what's the difference with the other curry dish?.....the beans, plus this one's less spicy, more sour.
Once again, a tad too thick for my liking, but lots and lots of curry sauce to drown your rice with.
Next came a plate of mixed vegetables, valued at RM 10. Liked the variety of it.
Then there was a medium plate of Fried Taugeh with Japanese beancurd. Hmm, never thought i'd one day blog about beansprouts. At RM 10 for this dish, well at least they removed the tails of the sprouts.
Just when i thought that was it, the owner surprised us with this plate of Deep Fried Silver Thread Fish (RM 8.90) or its other name, Karing-karing Fretu. Thinking how crispy and tasty a snack this would be, i popped one in my mouth and omg, it was so freaking salty!! We left this dish untouched - i felt sorry for the fishes... =(
It was so unbearable, we just had to comment on its taste to the lady owner. According to mom, this fish has to be soaked beforehand for some reasonable amount of time before frying, to rid it of its saltiness. So, we sort of gave the lady some tips on this too. All she did was smile and nodded her head....hmmm.
An entire jug of ice lemon tea could barely wash down our salty palates.
We decided to order an additional basket of Fried Chicken Wings. Not included in our set meal, these wings were GOOD!
Mom had the Cinnamon Coffee. Black. For me - simply BITTER. +.+
Last but not least, we each got a scoop of ice cream.
One thing though, their Menu is quite an extensive one, ranging from Breakfast to Buffet/ catering style. The cheapest starting from RM 18/ pax.....
...right up till RM 45/pax.
All in all, it was a meal that i paid a discounted RM 55 for 4 pax. Rather disappointed though that the food turned out to be just mediocre. Pity, not too sure how long this place can survive, especially with only 2 tables occupied during a Saturday lunch hour.
I have a feeling Darren won't be coming back for a second visit.
For me, should i crave for some Portuguese, i'd go a few blocks down the road to Portuguese Square.. ^^
